Historic Georgetown

Did you know Georgetown was founded 40 years before our nation’s capital?  Soak in the ambiance of the neighborhood that politicians, foreign dignitaries, high society, and spies, have all called home.  As you walk the sidewalks where some of history’s most noteworthy people once strolled, fall under the spell of this distinctive corner of DC.  Find yourself charmed by its grand homes as you catch the aroma coming from nearby restaurants and bakeries and get caught up in the bustle of its main street all while you enjoy tales of its more colorful residents.

Did you know that, for nearly a century, Georgetown was home to a thriving African-American community?  Come and experience a different side of Georgetown.  As you leave the frenetic pace of M Street behind, you will traverse the quiet, residential streets that once housed the heart of this neighborhood.  Allow the stories of the individuals who once lived here to reveal to you the community that worked, played, and prayed together for the betterment of one another.  Be challenged as you hear how the very forces that helped preserve the Georgetown we know and love today, were the same forces that undermined the African-American presence here.

Scandals, Ghosts & Spies

Would you have guessed that Georgetown has a wilder side?  Listen to the birds singing and feel the breeze on your face as you meander the garden-like paths of Oak Hill Cemetery.  If you are lucky, you just might catch a glimpse of deer, fox, or the other wildlife that frequently stroll the grounds.  As you bask in the beauty of your surroundings, immerse yourself in the stories of some of the more notable figures who now lie in the shady repose of Oak Hill.

  • This tour cannot accommodate wheelchairs or strollers as some paths are steep and/or unpaved and most are uneven

  • Tours are subject to change as no visitors are allowed during funerals which can occur with short notice

Metro Orientation

Are you just visiting or maybe new to the area?  Maybe you have lived here for a while but never learned or have been intimidated by the Metro system?  Let me show you the ropes.  I will meet you at a mutually agreed upon station and show you how it all works:  the color-coded lines, getting a SmartCard, and the etiquette of riding the rails.  Build the confidence you need to comfortably navigate the system on your own.  This session can be added to any tour.
